MARILYN BURGER BLANC Local musician, artist and teacher Marilyn Burger Blanc died peacefully at her Berkeley home on January 1, 2007, at the age of 81. Ms. Blanc was a native of Oakland, and a cellist with the Oakland Symphony Orchestra for over two decades until her retirement. She taught music for many years in Bay Area public schools and tutored hundreds of private students. She was also an avid collector of rare musical instruments which she gathered on her many travels throughout the United States and Europe. She was a graduate of Oakland High School, the University of the Pacific and the Julliard School of Music. She was a life-long member of the American Federation of Musicians Union Local 6. Marilyn is survived by her sister, Beverly Burger Goddard, her brother George Burger Jr., sister-in-law Evelyn Burger, and her children, Donna Blanc and Rick Blanc. She also leaves many nieces and nephews who will hold her memory in a special place. Having played in string quartets for countless numbers of funerals and memorial services over the years, Marilyn requested that no services be held. At the request of her family and many friends a big bash, in celebration of a long and fruitful artist's life, will be held at a future date.
