Resident of San Leandro

Dolores Aurora (Loverro) Routh passed away on October 8, 2015 two weeks after suffering a stroke, just shy of her 91st birthday. Dolores was born October 19, 1924 in Oakland, California, the youngest of six children of Vittorio Loverro and Maria Sabina Pepe who had immigrated from Cassano delle Murge, Italy. She was raised in Oakland graduating from Oakland High in February 1943. Her friends remember her as 'fun loving and a leader, active in school affairs and very social and popular.' Dolores was a member of Entre Nous, a social club that helped support the war effort. Fifteen members of Entre Nous started meeting for lunch monthly right after high school and they have continued to meet for the past 72 years! Dolores was one of four remaining members.

Dolores LoverroDolores met her husband Horace O. (Hal) Routh, Jr., a handsome Marine from Greenville, Texas at a YWCA dance in 1942. They were married in October, 1943 and settled in Oakland after the war. Dolores was an excellent typist and excelled at taking shorthand. She had a 35 year career as a secretary at Western Electro Mechanical Company starting in 1955. She had much respect for, and developed a life long friendship with, the company's owners.

During her 30's Dolores became involved in International Toastmistress Club and proved to be a very accomplished speaker coming in second in a statewide contest in the humor category. To the end Dolores was a very social person. She cherished her friends - from her earliest school friends to those at Mission Bay Mobile Home Park where she lived for the last 26 years. A very important part of her life was her 50 plus year membership in Theta Tau Theta, a sorority that supports the Diabetic Youth Foundation. Dolores and her sorority sisters shared strong friendships, great times and later, fond memories of their years together.

Dolores was preceded in death by her husband Hal (1983), her parents, five siblings and many dear friends. She is survived by her son, Don Routh and his wife Jan, their four children Christopher (Caren), Jason, Joshua and Jenna (James) and four great grandchildren Cody, Nevaeh, Abraham and Dominic. Dolores and her grandson Josh shared a very special bond and they will miss each other terribly. In addition, Dolores is survived by her daughter Karen, Karen's step-daughter, Nancy and Nancy's children, Ember and Skye. The family would like to thank the Doctors, nurses and staff at Highland Hospital and Washington Care Center for their professionalism, compassion and excellent quality of care.
