Paul McCarthy June 25, 1925 - Feb. 13, 2011 Resident of Concord, Paul McCarthy passed away peacefully at the age of 85. He is survived by his wife and sweetheart, Patsy, and their children; Joyce (Dwight), Richard (Patrice), Jeffrey (Debbie) and Jennifer (Pete) and their wonderful grandchildren; Jared & Cole Kelly, Sean & Jimmy McCarthy, Natalie & Lauren McCarthy. Paul was the son of the late Frank McCarthy and Marion Alexander McCarthy. He grew up in Oakland & San Leandro and attended Oakland High. He served in WWII with the Army Air Corps. in North Africa as a sergeant with the 114th Airways Communications Squadron at Roberts Field in Liberia & other locations in North Africa. He participated in numerous racing events around the Bay Area with his car buddies, and was a member of the Gear Jammers. Paul attended Merritt Business College, where he met his classmate, volleyball teammate and soon-to-be-bride, Patsy Ruth Bearden. They were married on June 20th, 1953, and had a long and happy marriage of 57 years. Paul was a mechanical design engineer with Garwood, then Yuba Mfg., he then went to work for U.S. Steel, where he held several patents, and retired in 1981. He had a fine appreciation for and vast technical knowledge of engines and machinery, which he loved to share with others. We'll miss his great sense of humor, and his great stories, family vacations at the Eel River, Lake Tahoe, and the Cole's cabin.
We'll always remember the family trips to see the relatives at Mendocino, and the visits to Hop Flat and Dimmick's Park.
