Aaron Bernard Simon Passed away at home in Lafayette at age 84. Born in Oakland, he lived in Lafayette for the past 46 years. He worked in the Simon Hardware Co., founded by his grandmother, Rebecca Simon, from the age of 7 until he was 72. The only exception was his service in the Navy in the South Pacific during World War II.
He was proceeded in death by Beatrice, his loving wife of 62 years; by sister Bette Gordon [Class of 1939]; and his brothers Bobby Simon and Stanley Simon. Devoted and loving father to Caryn Simon (Trevor Cozyris), Claudia (Jeff) Shelton and Joanne (David) Main; dear grandfather of Jessica and Harry, Christopher, Apryl and Lonny; great-grandfather of Camille Eloise, born April 7, 2009.
Aaron was a compassionate and generous man. His love extended far beyond his family. He also loved his work in the hardware business. Many homeowners in the Bay Area will recall his helpful guidance when shopping at Simon's. He enjoyed fishing, boating and golfing. He relished his many travels with Beatrice. His trip to China, his last big adventure, was his favorite. More than his travels, he enjoyed being at home working in his garden. The squirrels and deer will have their respite now. He was a member of Temple Sinai his entire life and supported many charities. Aaron's love, shining smile with deep dimples and hearty laugh will be deeply missed by all that spent time with him. He brought joy and love with him to every occasion. His family thanks his doctors, nurses, and Hospice of the East Bay.
Services will be held Tuesday April 14th, 2009 at 3:00 P.M. at Home of Eternity Cemetery Chapel, 5000 Piedmont Ave., Oakland. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
