John Wesley Ball was born in Oakland to Ruth and John Ball. He attended Oakland High, Cal Maritime and UC Berkeley before joining the Navy. A decorated officer, he served in the Korean War in posts around the globe.

Following the war he joined Pacific Telephone Company, where he worked for 36 years as a network-engineering executive. John met his wife, Patricia Roberts, while working in New Jersey. They were married on May 15, 1960, in Scarsdale, New York. They resided in Orinda for more than 40 years and following John's retirement in 1990 were able to spend more than two decades traveling the world.

John Wesley BallJohn was admired and respected by those who knew him. He maintained many lifelong friendships - until his illness he attended yearly reunions with his Cal Maritime and Pac Bell friends. He was an avid A's fan and spent many a day at the ballpark with his two sons and, later, grandkids.

John is predeceased by his wife, Patricia, and his sister, Elizabeth Ann. He leaves behind son Steven and Cecilia Ball of Pittsburg; grandchildren Alexandra, Ethan and Devin and their mother, Silvia Navarro of Bay Point; and son Kenneth, daughter-in-law Pamela and granddaughter Peyton of Walnut Creek.

Friends and relatives are invited to a memorial service on Tuesday, July 12, at 10:30 a.m., at Oakmont Memorial Park, 2099 Reliez Valley Rd., Lafayette. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of the East Bay.
