Luella (Wong) Mak, 89, of San Leandro, California, passed away on July 18, 2016 in Colma, California. Luella was born in Oakland, California to Yong Gim Wong and Lily Chan Wong on April 10, 1927. She graduated early from Oakland High School, January 1945 in the top 15% of her class. She worked as a budget analyst and manager with the Naval Supply Center and Military Sealift Command for 42 years. After retirement, she earned a BA from Mills College and a MS from CSU Hayward. She worked as a substitute teacher for the San Leandro School District until she was 80. She received many recognitions and awards from the federal government and was an elder for the Chinese Presbyterian Church.

Luella Mak is survived by her sister, Maribel Ng (Walter), her daughters Linda Mak (Thomas Smith) and Marsha Mak, her grandchildren Katherine Weisbly (Zachary), Matthew Smith and Rachel Mak-McCully (Olivier Bouchard) and her great-granddaughters Elizabeth and Victoria Weisbly. She is preceded in death by her husband Benjamin Mak and her brothers Albert (Virginia) and Dewey (Alma) Wong.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Oakland Library Asian Branch or Mills College Annual Fund: Mills' Undergraduate Scholarships.The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Peninsula Reflections staff, who gave Luella a lot of understanding, love and attention, and to the Gentiva Hospice staff, who gave her loving support to the very end.
