Diane Wertz Lawson
July 24, 1928 - April 27, 2014
Resident of Alameda
Diane was 85 years old when she passed away on April 27, 2014 in Alameda, CA. Her husband, Jim Lawson, preceded her in death six years earlier.
She was born and raised in Oakland, CA by her parents Leroy and Marjorie Wertz. She attended Glenview Elementary School, and Oakland High School. When Diane was attending Oakland High, she was class President and formed an all girl rock band...yes, she was the drummer. In later years she helped plan reunions for the Oakland High "Wildcats" and the "Glenview Girls."
After briefly attending Holy Names College to study music, she decided to finish her education at Wright-Mac Mahon Business School in Santa Monica, CA. After graduating from Wright-Mac Mahon she moved back to the Bay Area and worked for Del Monte Foods.
Diane met her future husband, Jim, at the First Congregational Church of Oakland. They were married on February 26th, 1956. They had two children, Jay and Susan, and two grandchildren, Andy and Julie.
While living in Piedmont, Diane was very active in her children's lives. She served as President of Wildwood School's Mother's Club, DAR, CHIME, and coordinator for the Lower Wildwood Avenue 4th of July parade (floats & blocks parties). She also enjoyed working for the March of Dimes, and served as the Alameda County chair for one year.
Diane will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother to her family. Surviving family members include her son Jay, daughter Susan, daughter-in-law Linda, and grandchildren Andy and Julie.
Donations can be made, in her name, to the Guide Dogs for the Blind, San Rafael, or Children's Hospital in Oakland. A private internment has been planned.
