Valdine Audrey Silberman Mar. 15, 1931 - Feb. 12, 2011 Resident of Hayward On February 12, 2011, Valdine Silberman passed away peacefully at the age of 79. "Val" found comfort in her final days by sharing time, memories, and laughter with her family, friends and dedicated caregivers.
Valdine, an East Bay Area native, was born on March 15, 1931 in Oakland, California as the daughter of Morris and Sara Rosenberg and the younger sister of Jerome Rosenberg. Valdine was happily married to her loving husband of 41 years, Jack Silberman, who predeceased her almost twenty years ago after a long battle with cancer. Jack and Valdine were married in 1950 and moved to Hayward in 1954, where she has resided ever since. Val graduated from Oakland High School in 1948 and she was very active serving both as President of the "Block O Society" for girls' athletics as well as singing in the school choir.
Valdine was the beloved mother of three sons, Lawrence Silberman, Michael Silberman and Mark Silberman (along with his wife, Leslie), and cherished grandmother to her 3 grandchildren, Jason Silberman (age 14), Zellie Silberman (age 11) and Alysa Silberman (age 8).
Val will always be fondly remembered for her unwavering involvement in and fundraising efforts for her sons' various sports and other activities, for her impressive business savvy, and for her love of a good bargain. She also had a strong sense of her Jewish identity and supported local causes to keep this spirit alive.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 15th at the Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any memorial contributions be made to either the Vitas Hospice Charitable Fund (web site: http://www.vitascharity fund.org/donation) or to the discretionary fund of Rabbi Richard Winer at Congregation Beth Emek in Pleasanton, 3400 Nevada Court, Pleasanton, CA 94566.
