Resident of Castro Valley
Ernie Alves, 77, long time resident of Castro Valley, passed away at home surrounded by his family on June 13th, 2013 after battling cancer.
He was born in Oakland, California on September 29, 1935 to Manuel and Florence Alves. A graduate of Oakland High School, he married his high school sweetheart, Diana, on December 11, 1954.
Ernie retired from the Oakland Fire Department after a twenty year career. He was also a lifetime member of the Nor Cal Glaziers, Architectural, Metal, and Glassworkers Union. He volunteered with Diana at the Treasures Hospice Thrift Store in San Leandro. He is survived by his wife Diana; one brother, Earl Hancock; daughter Charnell, two sons Lance and Darren; three grandchildren, Chase, Amanda and Dallas; two great grandchildren Layla and Cash; and extended family and close friends.
The family would like to thank Epic Care, Castro Valley and Vitas Hospice, Milpitas for their warm caring doctors, nurses and staff.
The family is having a small private memorial. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations to Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or Treasures Hospice Thrift Store in San Leandro in Ernie's name.
