Carolyn Kahrs Carolyn Joyce Gaston Sept. 22, 1945 - June 3, 2006 Resident of Walnut Creek .

After a courageous three-year battle with cancer, Carolyn passed away Saturday, June 3 in Walnut Creek. Born Carolyn Kahrs on September 22, 1945 in San Francisco, she had happy memories of growing up in the East Bay with her two older sisters and younger brother. She graduated from Oakland High School in 1963.

Carolyn and Jim began dating in 1965 while she was working for the Alameda County Council and they were married in 1966. Soon after, they left for Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where Jim was stationed with the Army Special Forces. They returned to the Bay Area in 1969 and settled in Pleasant Hill. In September 1976, they were blessed by the arrival of their wonderful daughter, Michelle. In 1980, they moved to Truckee, California where Carolyn began a 25-year career as a legal assistant at Porter Simon Law Offices where she leaves many good friends and colleagues. Carolyn was active in her community as a member of Soroptimist International. She was also a supporter of the American Field Service exchange program. She enjoyed camping, SCUBA diving, and traveled extensively.

Those who will miss and remember her include her beloved husband of 40 years, Jim; her daughter and best friend, Michelle and her husband, Steve; her dear siblings, Nancy, Marguerite, Ken and their families; her AFS daughter, Berit from Germany; numerous caring friends and colleagues; and her faithful dog, Maggie. All who knew her remember her kindness and gentle nature. Never one to complain, she lived her life with dignity and grace, managing even the challenges of her final illness with patience and a loving concern for her family.

Memorial and interment services are being held in Truckee, California. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society.
