Graig Cahill Graig Cahill
Dec. 2, 1946 - March 9, 2018
Resident of Castro Valley

Graig Cahill, real estate broker and resident of Castro Valley since 1974, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2018, following a long struggle with respiratory issues resulting from chemical exposure during his service to our country in Vietnam. Born December 2, 1946 to Evelyn and George Cahill, Graig was the youngest of four children and grew up in Oakland during the sixties, attending Oakland High School.

Graig CahillIn his teens, Graig organized friends in the garage to make music, forming Graig Cahill and the Off Beats, and later The Shillings. His career grew as a singer, songwriter, and lead guitarist, and he recorded music for Fantasy Records before being drafted into the U.S. Army and deployed to Vietnam, where he served for two years. After his discharge, Graig attended college on the V.A. Bill, and studied for his real estate license. He found a long and fulfilling career as an entrepreneur and real estate broker, helping hundreds of clients, many of whom remained clients throughout his career. He was also an active member of the Castro Valley Chamber of Commerce, and the National and CA Associations of Realtors. Graig continued to write and play music during his life, a passion he shared with all who knew and loved him.

As co-founder of Cahill and Company Real Estate, established in 1974 with his partner Ben Cohen, Graig turned his business into an outlet for a strong lifelong desire to help other people, no matter what their challenge, no matter what their dream.

Graig's philosophy on life was simple: do what you can for others, be kind to animals, and take care of the planet.

Graig is survived by his partner and soul mate Sue Fredrickson, his beloved children Julie (and Patrick) Barnard and Ben Cahill, his grandchildren Christina, Kira, Jakob, Addison, and Lincoln, his brother Mike Cahill, and numerous lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Nora Willis and Patricia Holmes, and stepdaughter Robin Hutto.

A Celebration of Life will be held on March 24 at 3 p.m. at the Church of the Nazarene in Castro Valley.
