Brenda Joyce Henderson, age 69, of Somerset, passed away on Sunday, September 10, 2017 at the Jean Waddle Care Center. She was born in Ohio on September 28, 1947 to the late Manford and Mary Chaffin Ronk.

Brenda was raised in San Francisco and Oakland, California by her mother and stepfather, Roger Mowrer. She attended Bret Harte Junior High and Oakland High Schools, where she maintained a 4.0 grade point average and excelled in math, history, and swimming. She was a devoted Girl Scout and earned numerous merit badges. Brenda moved to Burnside, KY in her early 20's and lived with her aunt and uncle, who owned Lost Lodge Resort. A few years later, she met and married Richard Henderson, and moved to Somerset.

Brenda learned sign language, which she taught to children and signed to interpret for the deaf during mass at her church. She was a substitute teacher in county schools for many years. She loved all things Elvis, and even had the tickets from his last unperformed concert encased in a frame. She enjoyed American Indian items and decor, and often gave American Indian themed gifts to loved ones.

Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Richard, and her brother, James Henderson. She is survived by her daughters, Heather Rose and Deborah Canaday; son, Joseph Henderson; grandchildren, Zachary Johnson, Aubree Rose, Cheyenne Rose, Taneika Henderson and Tori Henderson; sister, Beverly Herrera; brother-in-law Rudy Herrera; brother, Duane Mowrer; step-sisters, Patty Nafzger and Sandy Fritsche; step-brother, David Mowrer; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

She will be deeply missed by all who loved her.

Visitation for Brenda Henderson will be held on Thursday, September 14, 2017 from 5:00 until 9:00 pm at the Chapel of Somerset Undertaking Company and Crematory.

A celebration of life honoring Brenda Henderson will be held on Friday, September 15, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Chapel of Somerset Undertaking Company and Crematory with Bro. Jerry Burnett officiating. Interment will follow at Mill Springs National Cemetery.
