In Loving Memory
Dec. 15, 1923-Feb. 1, 2015
Son of John and Irene Harshman, Ed was born in Columbus and grew up in Findlay, Ohio. He served in Europe during World War II and was awarded a Bronze Star. Ed received a B.A. from the University of Miami and a Masters in Science Education from the University of Utah. He moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1959 and taught Physics at Oakland High for 29 years. After retiring, Ed could hardly walk down the street without meeting a former student who said Ed had changed his or her life. He loved family, students, friends and colleagues, and was a devoted San Francisco Giants fan.
Predeceased by his brother Richard of Clemson, SC; his son, Kent and daughter, Vikki (Lowry), both of Lake County, CA.
Survived by his wife, Ruth Dorney, his stepchildren, Barbara Waugh, Brian Dorney and Maureen Dorney, and his grandchildren, Sarah McDowell and Kyle Lowry.
Donations in Ed's memory may be made to Blood Centers of the Pacific, San Francisco or to a charity of your choice.
