Rose Sylvia Of Castro Valley, California passed away surrounded by her loving family on September 27, 2006. Beloved wife of 44 years to the late John P. Sylvia. She is survived by her stepson, John P. Sylvia Jr. and his wife, Lyn of Castro Valley and her nieces, Irene Hicks and Annemarie Gomes from Providence, Rhode Island as well as numerous great-nieces and nephew.

Born July 27, 1913 in Taunton, Massechusetts, she spend her childhood in Taunton, graduated from Taunton High School in 1931, Bridgewater State Teacher's College with a Bachelor's of Science in Education in 1935. Rose retired in 1979 from the Oakland Public School System where she taught gifted arithmetic, algebra and geometry for 29 years at Roosevelt and McChesney Jr. High Schools. She was also a Master Teacher for students from the University of California and San Francisco State University. During her retirement years, Rose enjoyed world traveling, various crafts and spending time with her family and friends. She was an avid A's fan, and a volunteer with the Oakland A's Booster Club for many years.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate her life with a memorial Mass on Tuesday, Ocober 3, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Liguori Chirch, 16290 Foothill Blvd., San Leandro. Private inturment at Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno.
