William (Bill) C. Gonsalves of Hayward California passed away January 28, 2014. He touched many lives with his love of his family and friends. He was a man who always put the needs of others ahead of his own. Bill was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
William was born August 24, 1929 in New Bedford, MA and resided in the East Bay. He was a graduate of UC Berkeley in Archeology. His professional life was devoted to being a teacher, counselor and principal in the Oakland Unified Public School District for more than 30 years. His numerous accomplishments included serving in the US Army, earning his Masters Degree, obtaining Teaching and Administrative credentials, Vice-President of the Luso American Educational Foundation and board member of Our Lady Of Grace School.
While Bill's career was of great importance to him, his family and loved ones were his true passions. He is survived by his loving children Michael, Sylvia, Philip, and stepchildren Craig and Todd. He is also survived by his adoring grandchildren, Joshua, Sean and Jocelyne, step grandchildren Rachel, Elizabeth, Melia and Amara and step great-grandchildren, Travis, Brooklynn and Cole.
Friends and Family are invited to a Rosary on Monday, February 3, 2014 at 7pm preceded by visitation from 5:30-7:00pm at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 3433 Somerset Ave., Castro Valley. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at the church on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at 11am followed by a luncheon reception at the church hall and then a committal service at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Hayward. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vincent DePaul, Diocese of Oakland, Our Lady of Grace Church or the Luso American Foundation.
