Jane Hightower

Jane Hightower Jane Entriken Hightower Was born October 26, 1916 to James and Florence Ireland in Oakland, CA. She died April 26, 2006 at home in Walnut Creek. Jane attended school in Piedmont, graduating from Piedmont High in 1935. In 1936 she married Joseph Entriken in Berkeley. She raised their four children in their Berkeley home. They were divorced in 1955. She was remarried to Al Hightower, who proceeded her in death in 1975. Jane was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Oakland. She worked for the Oakland Public School System for 25 years, the last 20 as head of the Textbook Room at Oakland High School. She retired in 1981. She was honored for 6500 hours of service as a Kaiser Hospital Volunteer 'Pink Lady'. She served as Secretary/Treasurer for many years in TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly). She enjoyed reading, travel, and her faithful companion the last 13 years, her West Highland Terrier 'Tina'. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Anita and Hank Fletcher of Oroville, her daughters and son-in-law Diana and Dick Peterson of Lindsay, CA, Florence Melander of Santa Rosa, and sons and daughters-in-law John and Mary Entriken of Cazadero, CA and Will and Nanette Entriken of Elizabeth City, North Carolina, eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. A memorial service is planned for Wednesday, May 3, at 4:00 p.m. at the 1st Presbyterian Church, 27th and Broadway, Oakland. In lieu of flowers the family suggests remembrances to the 1st Presbyterian, Oakland Memorial Fund, or Kaiser Volunteers, 1425 South Main St. W.C.
