Born September 6, 1939, went to be with the Lord on June 14, 2006. He attended Oakland Schools, graduated from the University of California, received a Masters in Education from San Francisco State, and a Special Education Degree from Cal State Hayward. Don retired from a rewarding teaching career in the Oakland School District and began teaching young adults to drive. He loved his job and took great interest in his students.
He was an outstanding athlete all his life, lettered in baseball at Cal, ran three marathons, played excellent tennis and was a skilled golfer.
Don's greatest joy and proudest achievement in life was his family. He and his wife, Harriette, shared a wonderful life together just short of 43 years, raised three children and were blessed with a daughter-in-law, and son-in-law whom he loved as though they were his own. They are Kevin, Mark and his wife, Angie, and Erin and her husband, Paul Yeager. He delighted in being Bapa to his grandchildren, Zachary and Kate. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Alvin and Janet Louie; his brother-in-law, Sterling Lim and his wife, Lynne; and his nieces and nephews, Karen and Jon Low, Krista Louie, Miles Lim, Vicki Wong and David Wong.
Don loved his friends, the outdoors, good food, and the Cal Bears, and was richly blessed with many lifelong friendships. He was an elder and member of the First Presbyterian Church of Berkeley, a member of the Cal Alumni Association and the Big C Society.
His children's values are shaped by Don's strong faith in God, his positive outlook, wonderful sense of humor, and his joy and enthusiasm for life.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, June 24th at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 2407 Dana St. at Channing Way, Berkeley, California. Parking is on Channing.
